Claire Farrington, Partnership Manager for Grange Hotels reflects on a summer spent entertaining at the Globe.
As partnerships manager for Grange Hotels, I am lucky enough to entertain on many a balmy night at the beloved ‘Wooden O’. This summer I have seen a magical, spellbinding production of ‘The Tempest’, a fall-over-yourself-hilarious ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ and a stormy ‘Macbeth’, appropriately complimented by the darkening early October skies.
All our clients adore being in a box at the Globe. It is such a privilege to witness, from the comfort of a seat, with a blanket (if needed) and a glass of champagne (no question of need here!) their myriad reactions to the fabulous acting and music on stage. Although the view of the ‘groundlings’ is the very closest to the stage, being in a box still feels intimate enough and the view of the rest of the theatre is breathtaking.
The next day our inboxes are full of comments brimming with words such as ‘memorable’, ‘thoroughly enjoyable’ and ‘wonderful’. It is also the service that needs a mention here. Whilst the acting on stage is always slick, so is the hospitality. From delectable desserts on entering the box, to Globe staff making sure that everyone is content and comfortable – the experience is a delight and one I know many of our clients wait all year round to experience again.
Corporate account managers, such as myself, are always looking for the best and something unique when it comes to entertaining. For me, a Gentleman’s Box at Shakespeare’s Globe wins every time. The combination of the open air, the spoken word of the Bard and the fantastic service is a winning triumvirate. Here’s to the 2014 season!
Shakespeare’s Globe is proud to work in partnership with Grange Hotels. When visiting the Globe we recommend staying at the St. Paul’s branch featuring the award-winning Ajala Spa with 18m pool, sauna, steam room and hammam. Further details and booking can be found here.
